What are solenoids?
Solenoids are ectromagnetic devices in which the magnetic field is generated by the flow of electric current. They are generally composed of numerous wire coils arranged side by side, which are responsible for creating the magnetic field. These wire coils are usually wound around a magnetic core and are made of a ferromagnetic material, such as iron, to concentrate the magnetic flux and enhance the magnetic force of the magnet. By applying voltage, through a specific design for this purpose, the electromagnet can perform linear movement or collect the piece, depending on the type of electromagnet used.
There are different types of electromagnets (linear, bistable, suction cups, electromagnetic locks…) depending on their composition and behavior.
How solenoids work?
If we imagine that the wire coils are like a bobbin coil, when electric current passes through it, a magnetic field is created around it. The more turns the wire has, the stronger the magnetic field will be. This magnetic field can change in intensity depending on the amount of electric current supplied to it. At NAFSA, we prepare electromagnets according to the mechanical requirements (shape, sizes… of the complete product) and electrical requirements (voltages, duty cycle factors ED%…) requested by the customer.
Solenoids design and custom manufacturing
Solenoids play a crucial role as essential components in various electrical devices, such as motors and generators. Their relevance is particularly highlighted in the industrial sector, where they are used in machinery manufacturing. Additionally, they are fundamental in the medical field for applications such as radiology, dialysis, dosing, or artificial respiration. Their use has expanded in recent years in the automation and robotics sector.
At NAFSA Solenoids, we design and manufacture a wide range of solenoids and electromagnets, as well as carry out custom manufacturing projects for any sector. Our ability to adapt to specific needs ensures that our clients find precise and efficient solutions for their particular applications.
