In 2026, we celebrate 30 years of designing and manufacturing industrial electromagnetic solutions. Over these three decades, our catalog has grown, the industries we serve have diversified, and our customers’ technical requirements have evolved significantly. However, our starting point remains the same: manufacturing electromagnets that operate reliably under real industrial conditions.
From Workshop to Specialized Industrial Electromagnetics Manufacturer
NAFSA was founded in 1996 by Fernando Zuberogoitia in the Basque Country, a region with a long industrial tradition and a manufacturing culture focused on precision engineering. From the outset, the company specialized in a specific niche: the design and manufacture of electromagnetic devices for industrial applications. Not distribution. Not representation. In-house manufacturing.
This decision to control the entire process—from electromagnetic design to functional testing before delivery—defined NAFSA’s way of working from the beginning and remains a key difference that customers recognize today.
Custom Manufacturing as a Response to Industrial Diversity
Throughout these three decades, NAFSA has developed extensive custom manufacturing capabilities, which today are one of the main reasons why OEMs and system integrators choose the company as their supplier. When dimensions, holding force, operating voltage, IP protection rating, or mounting method do not match any standard catalog model, NAFSA’s engineering team develops the component from scratch.
The process includes technical project analysis, electromagnetic design with digital performance simulation, manufacturing using high-performance materials, functional testing before delivery, and technical support during commissioning.
What Has Not Changed in Thirty Years
Over three decades, manufacturing processes have evolved, the catalog has expanded, and target markets have become increasingly international. However, several aspects of NAFSA’s way of working have remained constant and explain why many customers return and why custom manufacturing projects continue to arrive:
- 100% in-house manufacturing, with direct control over design, materials, winding, and encapsulation processes.
- Functional testing of every unit before delivery, ensuring performance under real operating conditions.
- Technical support from component selection through commissioning, especially for custom projects where requirements do not fit any standard catalog solution.
- ISO 9001:2015 Certification, providing a structured quality management system and ensuring traceability for every project.
- The ability to respond to low-volume projects and prototypes, without production minimums that exclude small and medium-sized companies with specific requirements.
The result is a business model in which the technical team plays a meaningful role in product decisions, and where the engineers who design the components are the same professionals who answer customers’ technical inquiries.
The Next Thirty Years
The industry NAFSA serves today is very different from that of 1996. Automation has expanded into sectors that three decades ago relied on manual processes. Access control systems are now integrated components within digital building management platforms. Electrical distribution incorporates stricter safety requirements resulting from updated European directives. Agricultural machinery manufacturers are increasingly integrating sensors, PLCs, and electromagnetic actuators into equipment that was once entirely mechanical.
In this context, specialized manufacturing of industrial electromagnetic components is not losing relevance—it is gaining it. Even the most sophisticated systems still require components capable of converting electrical signals into movement or holding force with precision and reliability. These components must also be adapted to operating environments, duty cycles, and regulatory requirements that vary from one project to another.
Thirty years is more than just a number. It represents thousands of completed projects, hundreds of different industrial applications, and a catalog that has grown in response to the real needs of real customers. NAFSA has built its track record without shortcuts: by manufacturing, testing, and delivering components that perform exactly where they are needed.
If you have a project that requires an electromagnetic solution, whether standard or custom-made, our technical team is available to analyze your requirements and propose the most suitable solution.
